WHY did the Chicken cross the road?
by Mastodon inwhy did the chicken cross the road?.
dr. phil :.
the problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on 'this' side of the road before it goes after the problem on the 'other side' of the road.

Getting the forum back on track
by Simon inrecently we seem to have had a few different dramas and subsequent fallout on the fourm which i feel has detracted from its purpose.
with this in mind we have decided that we need to bring the forum back on track and as such we will be clamping down on a lot of the aggressive / insulting posts which have begun to become the norm for a few people.
we will also be clamping down on the paranoid assusation type of comments against newbies, if someone joins the fourm and you do not believe everything they post - so what, why do we need to hound them away with shouts of troll and fake etc, just ignore them if you dont beleive them.

I noticed a lot of those threads. I chalked it up to good old fashioned cabin fever.
Come on summer!!

Any architects, designers, or contractors here?
by frozen one ini'm sick of my bathroom and want to remodel it.
does it pay to have a professional architect design a rehab or should i just go to home depot with the dimensions and use their computer to lay it out?
the space is pretty small for a bathroom and i'd like to maximize the use of space so i'm thinking a professional consultation would be in order.

Thanks for the great replies. This wouldn't be the first project on my property. I've learned from past experience that remodeling is a pain. When I did my kitchen I had dreams about woods, hardware, colors, styles, appliances, etc. An endless number of combinations. I was very happy with the way it turned out but I'm easily pleased.
I am a licensed builder and designer for 29 years, hire somebody!!!!
I agree totally with this. I could probably do most projects myself but I don't want to live in a construction zone for weeks and weeks. I'd rather hire someone and have it done in a few days. Maybe my best option is to sell this house and buy a complete upgrade. Then again, I really like my current payment.

Thanks mann,
145K for a bathroom! Your could buy my whole house for less than that.
The space I have to work with is about 64 sqft. Pretty small. I could expand into the adjoining bedroom's closet space but I don't really want to sacrifice that room's closet. There is a hall closet that can be taken over though. My house is almost 100 years old. The heating system is hot water, which is wonderful, so that would have to be modified and rebalanced. I have even thought about moving the bathroom to the back bedroom and converting the bathroom to a walk in closet off the master bedroom. That would be quite spendy for this house. Overall I'm thinking more along the lines of $15-20K so that would get me what, a bucket to poop in and a cattle trough for Saturday night baths? I think I'll end up consulting a professional designer and go from there.
Thanks again for the insight.

The space is pretty small for a bathroom and I'd like to maximize the use of space so I'm thinking a professional consultation would be in order. If I redo the bathroom I thought I would change a closet into a laundry using a stackable washer/dryer as it makes no sense to drag my clothes from the second floor to the basement when I want to do a load. That means the electrical would have to be redone as well as the installation of venting and maybe a gas line if the dryer is gas. Any idea what having a pro draw up the plans would cost? Maybe I should just have a contractor come over and look at it and write the checks. Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated.

Not really but I tend to keep the ends pretty close together in the first place.

HOW can a Jdub accept BLOOD FRACTIONS?? hmm?
by martinwellborne ini thought the main thing with the blood issue was that it was to be viewed from god's point of view.
not that it would be up to individual choice and conscience.
my point that i am trying to get to is this, how can a jdub accept blood fractions if they want to view blood in the same light as god would.. am i making this clear?

I've asked a few of my witless relatives about the contradiction of no blood donation vs. ok to use certain products that came from donated blood. Not one has even tried to answer the question. In fact the impression I get is that they have a complete disconnect between the two. I would be interested to know if anyone has had a witless explain how they justify the practice.

Debunking the Reagan Myth
by nvrgnbk indebunking the reagan mythby paul krugmanpublished: january 21, 2008historical narratives matter.
thats why conservatives are still writing books denouncing f.d.r.
and the new deal; they understand that the way americans perceive bygone eras, even eras from the seemingly distant past, affects politics today.. and its also why the furor over barack obamas praise for ronald reagan is not, as some think, overblown.

Another thread about Reagan off all people. May as well have a thread about Chester Arthur.
Pointing out a couple of things. Congress controls the purse not the President. Congress. Congress. Congress. That would be the House of Representatives and the Senate. Congress spends the money whether Congress has it or not.
The real story concerning the escalation of the war on drugs during the 1980's is fascinating. Do a Google search of Tip O'Neill and Len Bias. That will take you back to the roots of the Narcotics Penalties and Enforcement Act. To jog a few memories, Tip O'Neill, from Boston, was Speaker of the House during most of the Reagan Administration and Len Bias was a basketball player who had signed with the Celtics. But enough about Reagan era politics.
Getting back to Chester Arthur, did he suck or what? Don't even think about getting me started on Woodrow Wilson. He was really pathetic.

As many will know there has been a lot of fighting in Kenya since Kenya's election in December. Wesley Ngetich, who wanted to run along the shore of Lake Superior again in June, was shot in the chest with an arrow and killed during fighting in his hometown. RIP Wesley. You are remembered in this town 8,000 miles away. Small world.
